The make ahead gravy is THE BEST....and can save your turkey. A few years ago, not realizing my mom had set the cook mode to convection, we over cooked the turkey. It was very dry. Thankfully I had tripled the gravy recipe. I carved the turkey and let it sit in the gravy while I finished everything else. As we were eating, everone was raving how delicious the turkey was. My mom and I just gave each other the "if they only knew look". LOL The gravy is so delicious you will want to at least double the recipe. I also used it to make turkey pot pies with the leftover turkey, green beans and stuffing.
Gravy conversations always take me back to the time my brother in law was directed (by my mom) to place the hot pan of broth (from simmering the neck and aromatics) outside in the snow to cool so the fat could be skimmed off. He put it on the snow topped deck railing. Yes. The snow melted (at an uneven rate apparently) and the whole pan spilled.
All sounds lovely. I live in Great Britain so we don’t celebrate thanksgiving. Definitely some items there I can use for Xmas day. Thank you Ina ( love to Jeffrey!). Happy Thanksgiving x

It sounds absolutely delicious! And I have never seen that movie by Nancy Myers, so guess what I’m watching tonight. I make your turkey roulade every year. It’s so amazing and just the right amount of turkey for my small gathering.

I just read Nora Ephron’s “I Feel Bad About My Neck.” It was my first time reading a book on a kindle. Yes, I’m that far behind. What a treat it was so funny. Yet it was poignant too. I had no idea Carl Bernstein cheated on Nora with our Ambassador’s wife from the UK, Margaret Jay (Peter Jay was the UK Ambassador to the U.S.). A very sad and tawdry affair. All while Nora was heavily pregnant with their second son. The experience inspired her to write “Heartburn.”
I’m going to be doing a trial run on the make ahead gravy as we’re having turkey drumsticks confit, which makes for a salty gravy. And definitely doing the Brussels sprouts this week, yum.
I often reread Nora Ephron’s books. But even better, LISTEN to her read them. It’s like she’s right there with you, at lunch. The material is hilarious and it’s even funnier when she’s “telling it.”
The movie The Holiday is the best I love it and watch every year along with a few other favorites like The Family Stone as well as the classics. Thank you for sharing these delicious recipes. I'll be making a few. Wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving

Agreed. I double the gravy at Thanksgiving and Christmas and keep some in the freezer during the year.

Love it all, we are not allowed to watch Christmas movies till after Thanksgiving. Then we veg out on them. Love the holiday.
